Pt/family teaching

-PPH happens often without warning so it is often that there is not enough time to educate patients about this complication. Considering that most of the risk factors for PPH occur during the birthing process it is more important that the nurse be aware of the necessary steps that need to be enacted during the birth to keep the patient safe and prevent this from occuring. The nurse can educate the patient on the signs of normal involution of the uterus as well as the signs of a potential complication if the mother and baby are discharged early from the hospital. This is important for the woman to know this information in may not develop till later in the postpartum period.
